Below the line…
This is approximately the area below the Highland fault line, which in terms of laziness of explanation is an imaginary line drawn between Glasgow and Edinburgh (Daftmill in Fife sneaks in across the Firth as this can be bought now as single malt). More historically accurate, the line traces old county borders running from the Clyde estuary in the West to the East and the River Tay.
Like the topography these drams are typically softer & smoother, offering a lighter character. However, Ailsa Bay has been manufactured with focus on peat and sweetness, resulting in a rich, earthy dram.
